John's Story
Life
Let's see...how does one go about synopsizing the past 20 years of their life?! After high school I went to UT for two years and then to Belmont College in Nashville where I graduated with a BS in Psychology. Went to Colorado and lived for a year, then to seminary in Louisville, KY until I got disillusioned and moved to NYC to work as a youth worker for a group of churches. Did that for three years in NYC and then went to grad school at Columbia University where I got a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) degree.
Graduated in 1998 but wasn't ready to leave NY (although I should have been), so I took a job on Wall Street rating bonds of local governments around the country. Got tired of that and NYC after three years and left 6 weeks before 9/11 and took a job with the District of Columbia local government, working in performance management for the whole government.
Shortly after moving to DC in 2001, I ran into a woman I went to grad school with and we started dating and we got married in May 2003. We decided it would be good to travel the world and both started applying to jobs overseas. Jennifer was working in international development, so she got a couple of offers and we chose to move to Croatia (east of Italy) in March of 2004. For 3.5 years I worked as an international local government consultant, but mostly just enjoyed exploring the region. In March 2006 we had our son Harper Beck Craig. In July 2007 Jen told me it was my turn to get a job, so we moved to Barre, VT where I am running the City. I work as the City Manager and ensure that things are managed well. We enjoy the Vermont lifestyle and truly love spending time with Harper as much as possible...he is such a wonderful child and a great 2 yr old.
Both of my parents have passed away (mom in 1988, dad in 2002), but all my family (sister, brother-in-law and niece) are still in Clarksville, so I go back a couple of times a year.
So, we are basically just enjoying life and looking for our next adventure.
