John's Story
Life
I have a 110 pound black lab that is suppose to be my wife's Shadow but it ended up being mine. We also have a chahuahua by the name of Sox. He weighs in at about 8 pounds. They are a hoot. We had to get a bigger camper so I didn't trip over the dog while cooking. My wife would not go camping unless she was off the ground so I talked her into a pop-up camper and she likes that. We get the best of both worlds. Sleeps like a tent but if it gets cold we just raise the canvas and turn on the heat. It also has hot and cold running water. I have a 2002 Colman Bayside.
College
I went to DeVry in Dallas after retireing from the Navy.
I have a BSEET degree and an Associates degree. And only after 3 years. The(BSEET)is a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. The funniest thing that happened was when I was applying for a Teaching Assistant position. They asked me where I would rather work and I said the lab. The interviewer said that I might be in a lab were the students build radios. I said that I built my first radio in high school. I got the job. One of my first classes was the last quarter of the technician program. I had to buy thier book in order to help out. Their professor was hardly around and the next year he asked for me by name. lso worked evenings as well. I put in almost 12 hour days at the school.
Workplace
I started work at Texas Instruments in 1992 as a contractor and was made permanent August 30, 1993. I spent the first 12 years at the South Building in DFAB working on metal etch tools used in building chips for cell phones and chips for automobiles and some that I had no idea where they went. I was then moved to KFAB working in the thin film area where they build up the semiconductors from bare silicon. Again a lot of the chips went into cell phones and computers etc.. In Februray of this year we found out that the build is closing down because it is not cost effective. My work release date is December 05,2007. So by May of 2008 I will be officially retired for the second time. I ended up about 5 months of getting 15 years of service and there for a pension. Oh well Social Security and Military retirement will work just fine. Plus I will have I pretty good IRA to draw on as well.
Military
I joined the Navy right out of high school. Spent a year in Cuba when Castro shut the water off to the base. Did about 4 tours to Viet Nam. Seen Honk Kong, Singapor, the philipine islands ( just about all of them). Visited the Marshal Islands. Spent about 6 years in Hawaii. That is where I got married and adopted a child out of Korea. He is now grown, married and has a baby girl 6 months old.
