john's Story

I was born in New Haven and moved to East Haven about half way thru the 4th grade school year year at Overbrook. Was already playing Hockey at that time and started playing the drums within a few months of being at Overbrook. After Overbrook I spent 8th grade at St Vincent Depaul and went to East Haven JR High for 9th before going to East Haven High. I left East Haven High in my JR year to persue a dream knowing that I would need to either go back or get my GED if I wanted to continue my Education. I did get my GED. I was Drafted in to the US Army on May 2nd 1968 which was on my dads birthday and only 5 days after my 19th Birthday. The U.S Army induction center on Chapel St was full of Kids from the New Haven Area and there were several of us from East Haven being gobbled up by Uncle Sam and sent off to a foreign country. In the Induction Center was Ralph Proto , Joe Borelli and Richard Borelli and my good friend Edward Hardwick from Branford. Ed never came home, he was killed in action in June 1969. After my normal active duty time I stayed in the Army Reserves for another 19 years. I was Married in 1994 { now divorced ] and I have to grown sons. Jason was born in 1982 and Joey was born in 1984. Jason has a son Aiden and a daughter Julie, Joey has a son Travis and a new born named Lilian that was born in July 2013. I LOVE MY 4 grand children . I am now Living in North Haven and I am retired. I retired in 2006 on a disability. A near fatal motorcycle cras...Expand for more
h in 1999 that left me with about 15 pounds of Metal implants, screws, nuts and bolts and a injury at work in 2005 had my doctors telling me Enough is Enough. I retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford CT in late 2006. I could actually write a book about my life and a few of my friends have said the same. Seeing that I do not have a lot of space on this page , I will keep it short and sweet. Really miss my friends from the East Haven school system and classmates is a great way to find a few of them. Recently ran into my former girlfriend Alma that I was seeing when I was drafted, There are a few others from about the same time and I hope they are well. Hope that anyone that reads my short story is doing well. We have lost a lot of great classmates over the years . For those of us that are lucky enough to still be here, I wish all of you the best, hope that someday we can all meet up. DIZZY. P.S. I have been carrying around the Nick Name DIZZY since 1968. Few of my old Army buddies still use it. I received it while on active duty. Every morning when the lifers would wake us up , the first thing I would do was to light up a Joint or pop open a beer. One day while in formation I did that and my Commanding officer just looked at me and said , SGT DeLeone, you are one DIZZY mother f--ker.. I no longer do either one of thos items. No alcohol since I was around 25 and weed since around the same time. I CAN WRITE A BOOK ABOUT MY LIFE. :)
