John's Story
I graduated from Sleepy Hollow HS in June 1960. After working at the Finast Supermarket in Tarrytown I wanted to go to college but couldn't afford to go so I decided to join the Air Force in December 1960.
On to basic training at Lackland AFB in SanAntonio, TX and then to Gunter AFB in Mongomery, AL for Medical Lab Specialist school and Clinical training at Maxwell AFB Hospital.After graduation I received orders for Tuley AFB in Greenland, great! Luckly another guy wanted to trade with me. He had Taranto, Italy. I said sure I'll trade with you. I spent a year in Italy and afterwards received orders for South Ruislip AFB,England. ut after a year and a half of partying I had to leave to be discharged at McGuire AFB, NJ.
I worked at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Yonkers General Hosp, St.John's Riverside Hosp.,New Rochelle Hosp.(19 years) and then Putnam Hosp. (26 years).
I retired in April 2007 after working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist for 45 years. WOW! I can't believe I worked that long in the same career.
I am looking in trying to do something else different and less stressful.
I still live in NY but I also have a townhouse in North Myrtle Beach (bought July 2005).My favorite things to do are swimming, fishing, walking and camping.
I returned to work at Putnam Hosp. March 2009 5 days a month.
