John's Story
Life
I graduated from Bellaire High in Texas in 1967 and then went to Colorado College where I played varsity lacrosse, fell in love with hockey, met my future wife and pretty much put academics on the back-burner.
After graduating in 1971, I worked as a Park Ranger, waiter, construction, and teacher. I taught in Loveland, Colorado from 1973-1978, where my wife and I lived a 'Normal Rockwell" existence. I was runner up for National Teacher of the Year in Conservation Ed in 1978 (first place Colorado, SW Region) before getting an M.S. in geology from Colorado State University in 1980 and becoming a geologist with Amoco.
I've had the opportunity to work, travel and...Expand for more
live globally (Egypt, London and Moscow, Russia). I just retired from BP after 29 years and started a consulting company which does training and project work for oil and gas companies. Deb and I live in our home in Coconut Grove, Florida, near her family. Both our kids have graduate college and we are full time 'empty nesters'. I've published a couple of books, written a lot of papers and still love geology.
I lost touch of most of high school grads but keep in touch with quite a few college friends and occassionally, some of my students from Loveland.
I play bluegrass banjo and guitar, which keeps me grounded in the things that matter most: friends and family.
