Mark's Story
In 1985 I graduated with a B.S.E.E. from UW-Madison and joined the Air Force as an officer candidate. After OCS, I attended primary aircraft training, then advanced aircraft training at Reese AFB. Upon graduation, I got my second choice selection aircraft which was the F-16C Viper with the 310th TFTS out of Luke AFB in Phoenix. My squadron later became the 425th and moved to Nellis in Las Vegas. In 1997, I was assigned as an Instructor Pilot for the Advanced Air Training Command at Sheppard AFB in Texas where I taught new Air Force and NATO pilots how to fly in the T-38 Talon. I retired from active duty in 2008 as a Lt. Colonel, and am now I am with the Wisconsin Air National Guard and fly the F-16C out of Truax field in Madison. taly, Keflavik, Iceland, and Thule, Greenland during my career. I have been married and divorced three times and decided that I am not marriage material. I live in my house on a small farmette in Oregon, WI south of Madison with two dogs, a black Lab/Newfie mix named Barney and an American Water Spaniel named Heidi. I grow organic vegetables which I sell at the Madison farmers' market - my specialties are gobo root, ginseng, pak choi (Chinese cabbage), rhubarb, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), kohlrabi, and daikon root radish. I also volunteer with the UW-Madison Air Force ROTC program and host ROTC cadets who cannot go home for holidays at my home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. I still play basketball and can hit those three-pointers just as well as when I was a Panther.
