John's Story
Life
We left Kansas City and moved to Belton in the summer of 1966. Graduated, joined the Navy with David Whitby in December, 1968 and we spent our Christmas in boot camp, Company 006, in San Diego, CA. I attended Mineman school in Charleston, SC for the assembly and maintenance of underwater mines. I was stationed aboard the USS Hancock and USS Oriskany, and on shore duty in Long Beach, CA; (Spent some time with Benny Goodall, John Long, and Kerry Austin while stationed there) Guam; Subic Bay, RP; training recruits in Great Lakes, IL; Charleston, SC; and retired from the Army Ammunition Plant in Hawthorne, NV as a Master Chief Mineman. wife Carolyn is a Journeyman Painter and I am a Project Manager for JANTEC, Inc. We have a daughter Tammy, Grand kids Jessi & Luke (Kennewick, WA), sons Tony (Bremerton, WA), John Jr. (Cottage Grove, OR), and Michael (Redondo Beach, CA). As for me, I finally grew a few more inches in height (5'8"), have put on a few extra pounds, and what's left of my hair is mostly gray. Nonetheless, I have a great wife, family, and a well deserved, Stress-free job. I look forward to retirement, whenever that happens. I'd like to make it to the next Belton High School reunion and would enjoy a reunion visit with my Paseo classmates. John (Mouchie) Epps
