John's Story
It was last spring, and I wondered if I had it in me mentally and physically to race one more time in the Battle at Buckhorn Triathlon here in North Carolina in the 70-74 age group. It has to be quite a dedicated training effort for months to rise to the occasion.
It was not until early April I heard of Patty Hillman's passing. not being on social media. I felt devastated, actually lost. She was dear to me since the very beginning of kinderg...Expand for more

So, I decided to dedicate this race to her and trained with intent I haven't had in years. And I raced with that intent. I did win my age group, what's left of it that is.
I know now that Patty loved swimming too. Now every mile I swim here in the lake with the sunlight rays in the clear water reaching into the depths and the sparkling waves on every breath, she will be in my thoughts. I do believe you all know the same grief as I.
