John's Story
Life
After Graduating from Washinton State University with a degree in Marketing, I spent 25 years on active duty in the Army, retiring from the Pentagon and establishing permanent residence in Spokane, Washington. My military time was filled with interesting and rewarding assignments around the US and World to include Germany twice, the Netherlands, Hawaii, San Francisco and Washington DC. I was also fortunate to have two assignments to Fort Lewis, Washington which is outside Tacoma so that I didn't lose touch with the Northwest.
Since 1995 I have been the Chief of Logistics for ES-KO International located in Monte-Carlo, Principality of Monaco. ES-KO is one of the largest providers of goods and services including total project management to the United Nations, NATO, major exploration companies, etc. Until August 2009, I lived and worked in Monaco getting to Spokane for a few weeks each year. I have been able to travel for business to many interesting places including Europe, the Balkans, Africa, the Middle and Far East and periodically the US. In August 2009, I moved my job to Spokane and while gradually retiring, still traveling bo...Expand for more
th in the US and overseas, I can now live in the home we bought when I first retired from the Army, routinely see the Grandkids and use my WSU season tickets.
I have been married since 1970 to Vickie who I met at WSU and who has accompanied me around the world both while in the military and with ES-KO. She has traveled with me on convoys into Bosnia when the US first deployed there in 1996. Her famous quip, "Just checking you guys out as prospective son-in-laws!", to some young military policemen when asked why she was there, is often quoted.
We have two daughters, "the shrubs", Heather (1973) and Holly (1976) who are both practicing physical therapists in Seattle. Heather and Mark Martin married in 2001 and are the proud parents of Jenna and Trent. Holly and Shane Miller married in 2014 and and have a son, Nash (2016). Shane brought with him three lovely new ladies to the family Chloe, Violet and Carolyn. Needless to say Vickie and I feel blessed to be Grandparents.
Besides the obvious joy of travel, Vickie and I take great pleasure in gourment cooking, collecting and refinishing antiques, reading, gardening and fixing up our home.
