John's Story
Living the dream, baby! Well, maybe not. I don't think I really had one. Slacker, I guess.
My wife, Bonnie, and I live in Tucson, AZ, having moved from OH in early 2006 for a relocation job. No longer miners. Now WFH, different companies. She's from Brunswick ('83), working at a non-profit. I'm in software, equity compensation. Who'd have thought I'd miss going to the office? Damn COVID!
We have 1 child, a daughter, Carolyn, named after her two grandmothers. She was born 1995, graduated in 2017 from Grand Canyon University (undergrad) and expecting 2022 MEd. Her goal is to get a doctorate so I will have to call her Dr. Carolyn, sort of like short-round in the 2nd Indiana Jones piping in "You call him Dr. Jones. Doll!" She's got her whole life ahead of her but she's thankfully not in a hurry and taking life in stride with God as her co-pilot all the way. We couldn't be more proud. law, even before this Christmas where he asked for our blessing to pop the question (after grad school to avoid distractions). Destination wedding as yet unknown but my dusty wallet cries now....
God willing, we'll celebrate 29 years marriage in March. Travel has taken a pause understandably, though we've had our boosters. Hoping to pick up again in 2022, perhaps, though probably would like to do something other than bus tours. I've had too many trips with Aussies and Kiwis which seem to be the predominant tourists.
I wonder if any of you felt as I did when first C.A. Thomas was a senior center, then razed. And with MHJHS converting to Big Creek Elementary at one point, then Midpark gone, it seemed like a plot to wipe out our existences. I'd thought maybe Miami University, despite its 1809 start, might be next and then I couldn't prove I'd lived, for if we are not educated, do we truly live? Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey. Not really but whatever.
