John's Story
After HS went off to college at NC State. Married Jeanne Buckley and we lived in Raleigh, NC for a year. Had a daughter, and then realized we missed LSU too much and moved back to BR in 1972. Graduated in 1974.
Joined Navy in 1975 to go into nuclear power program, and got to see a lot of the country. Had a son in 1976. Left the Navy in 1981 to work at a nuclear plant in Columbia SC. We survived that for 14 years. Jeanne finished her BS in Education in 1991. Moved to Los Alamos NM to work at non-weapons part of the lab. Our kids got married and started having our grandchildren. They are both in Charlotte, NC. So we moved back east (DC) in 2000 where I started working for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. We had the opportunity to move closer to Charlotte in 2002, so I again decided to go work at another nuclear plant Hartsville, SC (Hooterville). Big mistake. After two years they encourged me to off and be a consultant again. Wound up at the Savannah River Site in Aiken SC until 2008 when we returned back to DC and the NRC. If you wind up having to get stuck in SC, Aiken is a great place as is Myrtle Beach.
My career at the NRC allows me to pursue my real interests such as music and spending time with ...Expand for more
our 7 grandsons.
I always wanted to be a musician when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a terrible idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I am in the community band and several orchestras here.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is David Meek, because he was such a good friend, and we have lost touch.
Obsessions.- Music - Classical, rock, big band. Football - LSU, Navy, Redskins TV- CSI, SCiFi, anything produced by Bruckenheimer. Dogs and cats.
The teacher I'd like see again if possible would be Mr. Fortier. Had the greatest impact on all our lives.
My best friend would tell you I'm a practical joker, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as serious.
The weidest (and worst) job I ever had was at the Robinson Nuclear Station in Hartsville, SC.
In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by staying in DC and not moving again..
My oldest friend is Manny Kaiser. We were in the same neighborhood and were in first grade together.
My first job was at LSU, where I got paid 1.00/ hr to feed cattle and clean their stalls. What I remember most about it is that it was still a better job than working at the Robinson Nuclear Plant.
