John's Story

Life I am a registered nurse, and have been for 32 years. "Oh, are you a MALE nurse?" Yes, i am, or at least was the last time I checked. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was called to be a nurse by a power much greater and wiser than myself. I can think of no better way to have spent 32 years of my working life. I thought I was becoming a nurse to put myself through acting school, so I would have something to "fall back on" and not have to wait tables, etc. just to live. Little did I know. So, I am a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nurse, charlatan, musician, poet, filmmaker, woodworker--ahem--a renaissance individual, thank you very much, not a jack of all trades. I am one more very important thing: husband. During the great flood of 1993 here in Kansas City, I married the nicest person I have ever known. Her name is Dawn but i call her "Dawnie" for short and next to her Job seems like an impatient ingrate. She gives me love and support even when i am chasing another new rainbow. She is a wonderful cook and a talented musician, playing the bassoon in the Kansas City Civic Orchestra. I have been interested in...Expand for more
stop-motion animation since I was 12 or 13 but never had the resources to attempt it. Until now, that is. Technology has placed the film-makers tools in the hands of anyone with a little bit of money, resourcefulness and patience. I was sufficiently pleased with the result of a short film I made based on "Jabberwocky" that I entered it in the 2nd Annual Hot Shops Film Festival in Omaha. I won second prize in the amateur (non-academic) animation division. The cash prize more than paid for the materials I used to make the film and I purchased another animation program to with which to continue my work. The real beauty of winning the prize in Omaha was this: the great philosopher/anthropologist Joseph Campbell gave this advice to seekers of peace and happiness: follow your bliss. I followed mine, had a good time and received some recognition and prizes. Take it from me: follow your bliss. visit my non commercial website (under construction continuously) at: Ooops, you can't post urls here. Hmmmm. You know how URLs are constructed. Well then Fido got up off the floor an' he rolled over

Well, you know the man who was talkin' to the dog
Looked at the dog an' he said:

"You can't say that!" He said:

Our beloved friend and faithful companion Dolly left us very unexpectedly late this afternoon. I am told she has gone to a better place. I have to believe that. We will miss her so much. Goodbye Little Girl.

And speaking of Dawnie, we had the most wonderful day. While Jon Knipp and I were working on some music, she made one of my favorite meals and a pineapple upside down cake.We hung out and then went to see IMAX 3d Everest.Th
