John C.'s Story
My former profile is no longer available, I'll have to redo it. At this point in my life I am still working, having spent the last 47 years working in behavioral health. While I am an independently licensed clinician, I no longer work as a therapist, but as a manager. I have worked in a variety of settings including private practice, working for a for-profit behavioral health system and for several non-profits. I taught as ASU's Graduate School of Social Work in the early 90s and retired from the VA Medical System after 30 years of service. I have been retired three times, but get bored and return to work. r first wife died onf cancer when we were in our early 40's and I raised my three children and would not allow myself to get into a serious relationship until they were adults. My children are in their early and late 40's with their own children. My current wife and I have been married for 21 years and I have spent many years supporting her achieving her level of education. has three master's degrees and a PhD She recently eaarned her third master's degree in social work so that she can be a therapist working with traumatised clients. Both being in behavioral health gives us a lot to talk about. I feel like my life is full, I enjoy what I do, love being with my children and grandchildren and we like to take a cruise, at least once a year, except for this time with COVID. Our next cruise isn't scheduled until August of 2022. I love to read and listen to music and enjoy spending time with my 90 pound black german shepard. It is like having a three year old at home.. I am currently 75 and can't decide what that age is suppose to be like. I remember thinking that was old, but now, it is just a number. I still feel like myself, just don't have the energy level I use to have.. Life is good and I am hoping that in this late part of my life, I can discover what God wants me to do with the time I have. i feel gifted in my ability to relate to people and wonder how this will continue to manifest itself. as I move forward in life.
