John's Story
After high school I attended one year at Racine Tech for electronics. While there I tried working one night in a foundry for extra money, found out foundry work was not for me . I decided not to attend a second year at Racine and the summer of 68 got a job at Parks Engineering in Milwaukee as a material handler .I worked there for a couple of months and then was hired by Sears to repair home appliances. I had a low draft number so I enlisted in the Air Force leaving Jan 1969 for boot camp at Lackland AFB Tx . I attended aircraft radio school at Keesler AFB Miss from March through August of 69. I married Kathy Condiff (Franklin Class of 68) at Keesler in July 69 and we rode out hurricane Camille in Aug 69 before leaving for California. I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino Ca from Sep 69 through Jan 73 working primarily on C141A aircraft.I had a trip to Okinawa Feb 1972 when Nixon went to China. Our oldest son Matt was born in 1971 at Loma Linda Ca . We returned to Wisconsin in March of 1973 and I went back to Sears having had a leave of absence . We lived in Wind Lake for a couple of years and our second son Warren was born in 1975 .We bought a house in Muskego on Jewel Crest Dr and have lived there since. Our youngest son Nate was born in 1986 .

lived in California i was bit by the 4 wheelin' bug and have had Ford Broncos since 1972. We have wheeled extensively in Colorado and Wisconsin along with trips to Utah,California, Arizona and the Michigan sand dunes .I have the dubious distinction of having rolled my Bronco over on the Black Bear Pass road in Colorado ,made famous by CW McCall's song .(I met him once in Ouray Co ) I ended up on the edge of a several hudred foot drop .
I am still employed by Sears having racked up 42 years now and am looking forward to retirement to start my second life. I have projects backed up and Broncos to restore that will keep me busier than a full time job. I also am going to buy a new camper for my 4x4 diesel pickup truck so I can do some traveling .
Update : Before retiring I was encouraged to get my sore knees checked out . To my chagrin I found out that my left knee was bone to bone and my right knee not far behind. In August of 2011 I had my left knee replaced and in November ,20111 I had my right knee replaced. .After extensive therapy I was still not able to stoop, kneel ,or crawl and was unable to perform my job at Sears. I used up my one year of medical leave and officially retired in August of 2012. I look forward to doing the things I have planned for retirement .
