John's Story
Life
Graduated 1982....moved to Myrtle Beach, SC 1985...Left MU
(a shout out to my ATO brothers)) to do my internship in SC in Criminal Justice, it wasn't a career match for me. Wasted a few years beach bumming then finished my degree at Coastal Carolina University in Business.
If you have ever visited this area you know it is tourism based and I didn't like working past 5 PM. So I started teaching Business in the High School to age group 14-18, they drove me up the wall. Decided I loved teaching but not that age group, my hat is off to all teachers of teenagers.
Went back and received my MBA in 2002 and have since been hired at the local college. I LOVE IT.
I am now working on my PhD ...Expand for more
and hope to earn it by 2012.
I do come back the Huntington area during the Holidays and usually one visit during the spring or summer, my favorite times of the year.
School
Teachers that inspired me the most... WOW what a question. I have to start back in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade Evans , Alexander and Coburn. They gave me the tools to read, write, and do math.
Then after some miserable Jr. High years, Ms. D'Antoni was my 9th grade math teacher and she let me know I wasn't a total loser, and many of the situations weren't my fault.
Then in High School it was Ms. Linn, who brought me out of my shell and I think she liked everybody, and made evryone feel like they were something special.
