John's Story

I was a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service for 40 years. This was something I always wanted to do. But I never considered it as a career until 1974. Went to Florida State and graduated 1977. Started as a Meteorologist in Washington D.C. 1978, then worked at the Portland Oregon National Weather Service Forecast Office 1979 and 1980. Since 1981, I have worked at the Indianapolis NWS. I retired in 2018. Still miss the work and the shifts with...Expand for more
my co-workers. But, not the midnights! Met my wife (Jacki) 1983 and we married a year later. She has been great and our kids are doing well. My son (Craig) does radiation inspections for the U. S. navy. My daughter (Tara) is a CPA and manager with Earnest & Young. We have 2 grand kids (boy 7 and a girl 9). We have spent the last few winters living in the Villages Florida, and the rest of the year in the Midwest. I guess that makes us snow birds.
