John's Story
May peace and blessings be upon you for reading my story:
here is my story...
Third generation NAVY BRAT, born in Naples, Italy lived there three different times for a total of 12 years. Have lived and attended school in SC., Ct., CA., VA., MI. and RI.
This is my story and it is not intended to dazzle any one with B.S. I have had many ups and downs in life that I am not proud of and ones that I am proud of, I have lost a lot and have gained some. So, I just will outline the positive, and my success.
Grew up going to most major Navy bases, I still speak Italian, moderate Arabic, as you can see the traveling never stopped.
Currently, living in Kuwait, and have resided here since 2002, I am married to my wife Anwar who is a Kuwaiti Doctor, at the Burns and Plastic surgery center we have now a total 4 boys. We are somewhat secure I have invested in Land in Oman and in Kuwait. I have three cars, one in restoration a 1980 Maserati Quattroporte, I have restored other cars in the past here like a 1992 Corvette, 1979 trans am, 1994 Ferrari 348 ts, but I do love Italian cars and I am a very competent mechanic and it is my hobby.
Currently, I work as a Yacht consultant and broker, as well as Yacht Design. in the more recent past I have worked as a defense contractor in Kuwait, have been here supporting our troops, repairing, rebuilding and management, for tanks, hmmwv(hummer) and all sorts of military vehicles.
Let me make it clear, I may not support the methodology of the war in Iraq, but in reality it was necessary, for Kuwait. notwithstanding, I support our troops no matter what, although I may not agree with the President, but I respect the office and I take great Pride in doing my job, so that our fellow Americans have safe vehicles.
Also, I have worked in the Local economy in the real estate sector and OIL industry, product supply, and consultation for Yachts, anything to make some money, it is expensive here , even when Gasoline is Cheaper than Water.
Since 1988 on wards during High school and college, I joined the U.S.M.C. and got out on a medical for destroying my Knee in Training, so after recovery and some post graduate study for high school, As some of you may Know that some of the School credits earned towards graduation in Italy were not transferable in some schools in the states, because the lack of classes for that curriculum, so I got into Ship building and repair of boats and yachts and Composite work. I have worked on Sailing Yachts, (in VA. BEACH they called me john Cousteau in high school )even took off in high school to work in the Caribbean on a tall ship then sailed to Portugal across the Atlantic on a 60 foot sailing yacht from ST. Thomas, Bermuda, Azores, myself and two Blokes from Australia, Then back to school in VA. Beach
Career wise it h...Expand for more
as always been about yacht clubs and sailing around the world. Looking for the best Surfing spots I could, I have worked as crew, learned to sail with the best in the world Quite literally, in competitive Sailing, as a Boat builder, yacht designer, and Defense Contractor, and some computer work as well and all the crap jobs in between. In the Navy Family I am a real "jack of all trades"
for a few years off and on from 1991 to 1995 the "long strange trip" with the Grateful Dead tour and the Rainbow trail, holding various jobs as a traveler to keep things going, in restaurants, residential and commercial construction, and yachts
to arrive at Woodstock at Yasgurs farm in 1994 (the brown acid was better) then ended up in the South rim of the Grand Canyon with 20,000 hippies eating mushrooms and dancing Naked, pounding on drums when I got back to reality later that year... I went to Seattle.
then in 95 went south from Seattle and I was working for one of the Sailing teams for the Americas Cup in San Diego CA. Next, I Sailed to Hawaii on a 75 foot wooden Ketch jumped ship in Escanaba, Mexico, drank too much, that year. Later I returned to the east coast and worked around Newport Rhode Island, at the International Yacht Restoration School and the New York Yacht Club.
In 1997 I decided to quit drinking, Part of my recovery I went to Virginia
I moved to ORANGE County in Virginia, and worked on a Horse and Cattle Ranch, we had 200 horses and 800 cattle. After drying out and some rehab, and went back to school. Studied computer science for an A+ cert and religion as part of my 12 steps and became a Muslim, (converted to Islam), it had given me a path to follow and a way of life that has helped me maintain sobriety.
I moved to the DC /Annapolis area where I set up my own business Managing Yachts and doing repairs, and restorations. I lived on a 36-foot sailboat in Washington DC., At the Gangplank Marina. Capital Yacht club.
After 9/11 (I was 2km from the Pentagon) I decided to move to Kuwait sold everything and set up life and started over in Kuwait.
In the past years I have had some tribulations, I herniated three disks in the cervical spine, an on the job accident, with me bench pressing a Hummer, I am much better now after having to get surgery in San Francisco California, in June of 2007, I cannot receive disability from the U.s. Government because the laws don't protect Contractors working for the Army, fighting a losing battle, much like Iraq.
in 2008, I had a series of knee surgeries and a cancer scare with the esophagus. Follow up on the Esophagus, Had surgery in 2009 called fundoplication, to repair the hiatus hernia and my GERD situation that I have been living with for 25 years.
