John 'Jay''s Story
Wow...how do you sum up your life in one of these? Been everywhere, met some very interesting, awesome people and I have seen so many things.
Where to start?
After high school, I fled (lol) to the NAVY! I joined the US Submarine force and served abourd both the USS Portsmouth and the SSBN Alaska in Puget Sound, WA.. After my tour with the Navy, I headed back to San Antonio, then to Austin. I spent a year or so in Austin before I decided one day...time to try something new. So, with 142.00 in my pocket, and a bus ticket to LA, I headed out west. I ended up in Hollywood, CA. I landed a job, a place to live and made friends pretty fast. I liked it so much that I stayed out in Hollywood for 4 years. No, I never did any acting, but everyone that I knew did, so I was able to meet and hang with some people that otherwise, I never would have known. Ask me about those days!
After deciding that LA was too fast, I decided that I wanted to learn how to fly, so I h...Expand for more
eaded to Tulsa, OK., and went to Spartan School of Aeronatics. I spent a few years there and then headed to Dallas and worked for American Airlines. After 9/11, the airline industry went south and I was laid off. Not a bad thing though. I headed south to Austin and landed a good job with Progressive Insurance. I am still with Progressive at the Tampa site and still loving it.
Those are my travels. As far as what I like to do, I have discovered that I love to sail, cook, read,(voraciously) collect, work on cars and bartend (which I still do 2 days a week at one of the local night spots). I work with many area charities raising money and try and travel when I can. I head to Texas a few times a year and usually stay in SA and Austin when I am there. Sometimes, I eve get an itch and head up to Dallas...but its been a couple of years.
So, if you have found my profile and want to know more, email me! Its always great to hear from old friends.
Till then,
Jay
