John's Story
Life
While attending the University of Illinois, I married Clarence classmate Carol Maddock, to whom I was married for almost 36 years until her death in 1999. We had two sons, Michael (1968) and Stephen (1972). In 2000, I married Patricia Coyne, whom I met following Carol's death. We live in Chicago.
Following much study in physics (BS Eng Physics '64, MS '65 Illnois, graduate study at Cambridge, England as a Churchill Scholar), I made a dramatic switch, planning on ultimately going into polit...Expand for more
ics, and went to Law School at the University of Chicago. I ultimately worked 9 years with US Steel in International Manufacturing and Investment, and in the steel mill, owned my own manufacturing company in Valparaiso, Indiana and Rotherham, UK, sold that, ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives in 1990 and in the Indiana gubernatorial primary in '92 -- and now I am a Presbyterian minister outside of Chicago! Life is strange, and as much as I miss Carol, I still feel bery blessed!
