JON's Story
(Updated 21 September 2021) Following TFHS I spent summers on a USFS hot shot fire crew, winters on the Sun Valley ski patrol and ski school, spring and fall attending college, a great schedule while it lasted. A subsequent hitch in the Navy, some as a hospital corpsman (medic) with the Marines, earned me a lifetime membership in the Disabled American Veterans. I joined the Navy to see the world but instead I saw the other side of life. Following early retirement from a rewarding three-piece pin-stripe suit career as a budget officer and Nancy's resignation as a finance and procurement specialist, we sold our house in Kansas City, MO, gave all our possessions to our kids and charity, and moved into a 41' diesel motorcoach (Time Bandit) in which we've lived full time on the road since April '97. As of today, our bus/house totals 258,362 miles while towing our Jeep Rubicon (Rubi J). We spend about five months each "winter" parked on our waterfront lot on Long Island (Port Isabel, TX) on the tropical Gulf of Mexico coast just north of the Rio Grande River and travel throughout North America the rest of the year. activities are strenuous hiking, power walking, biking, and off road jeeping while exploring new places such as seen on the Discovery and History channels. We also treasure spending time with kids and grandkids, some of whom have traveled with us from time to time, as well as making new friends and visiting old ones. There's no end in sight to our wanderlust as we truly love our nomadic life and continue to feel very blessed to be living our dream. We have four sons, one daughter, all married (which adds five more kids to the count), 14 grandchildren ages 9 to 37 years and three great grandchildren ages 3 months to 8.years. As a side note, Nancy was raised in Kansas City, MO, and is more than a little envious of our rather idyllic growing up years in Twin Falls where we attended my 50th high school reunion in August 2013 and had an absolutely fabulous time. In 2018 we attended her 50th in Missouri with the same results. At each gathering all those years simply melted away and for three days we were again teenagers.. We're now looking forward to my 60th in less than two years. 'Tis simply unbelievable to say the least.
