John's Story
Life
I was born & reared in Fitchburg, MA, where my family were members of St. Bernard Parish. My parents, now both deceased, were Florence (O'Neil) & John Kelley, Sr. I have one sibling, Mary (Kelley) Lilley, 2 years younger than I. I graduated from St. Bernard Elem. School in 1949, St. Bernard H.S. in 1953 & Holy Cross College, Worcester, in 1957. I entered St. Thomas Seminary & School of Theology in 1957. After 4 years of formation there I was ordained for service in the Diocese of Worcester in 1961. I served, on loan, in the Archdiocese of Denver for 1 yr. & then returned to the Diocese of Worcester, where I have served for 42 yrs., usually in parish ministry, but also as a full-time religion teach...Expand for more
er on the H.S. level. I have taken several graduate courses in various disciplines & took 2 study sabbaticals, both in California. I have been pastor of 3 parishes: Sacred Heart of Jesus in W. Brookfield, St. Bernard in Worcester & St. Vincent de Paul in Baldwinville. Since 2005 I have been semi-retired, serving as Senior Priest at St. Mary Parish in Uxbridge. In 1996 I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable, but treatable, form of cancer. I am now in remission for the 2nd time, thanks to God, the medical community & the prayers of so many faith-filled family members, friends & parishioners, past & present. I have been blessed with a very happy & fulfilled life for which I thank God every day.
