John's Story
In 2008, my wife Brenda & I, retired and hit the road, traveling in our 40 foot, 5th Wheel RV. We spent 6 mos in Beverly Hills, FL on the west coast. In March 2008, my wife left to go to South America for the birth of our 2nd granddaughter, Abby Kelso, the daughter of John Byron Kelso & Claudia M. Kelso. Our next stop was in the mountains of Virginia, where we stayed for 4 mos traveling the back roads & having a great time seeing the sites of Va, West Va, & TN.. In July of 2009 we spent 8 mos at the KOA campground in Newport, Tn. which is in the Smokey Mountains, about 20 miles from Piegon Forge & Gatlingburg,TN..We had a great time traveling the roads to Oak Ridge, Harriman, & Morristown. (My wife is from this part of Tn.-we were married in 1970). From there we traveled across country to Flagstaff, Az. WE LOVED this part of the U.S.A.. There is so mush to see & do. We were at an altitude of 6,950 feet. It was in the low 80's in the day & in the low 60's at night. Perfect weather! , Tn.. but the red mountains were just breath taking! In Oct. of 2011 we traveled to Needles, Cal. to spend the winter in the desert. We were at the corner of Az, Cal, & NV.. We met alot of great people & had a great time seeing Las Vegas, Nv, Bullhead, Az. , and KELSO, Cal. The town of Kelso was the last stop that the trains could get water for there engines. From Kelso, in started uphill through the mts. & on into the desert land. We went back to Flagstaff, AZ in the spring of 2012 for 4 mos & we are now in Weatherford, Texas, which is 28 miles weat west of Ft. Worth or 56 miles west of Dallas. We are 26 miles west of Mineral Wells, TX., where I was born! We like Texas, except for the HOT summer!! LOL (101-104). Well, it will be 2013 in 3 more days, Happy Trails to all!! Happy Rving & who knows, you to might become a full-timer like us!! It is Thanksgiving Day, 2013 & we are in Van Horn, Texas about 2 hrs east of EL Paso. In April 2014 we will be in Branson City,MO for 7 mos.. We just went through 4 days of an ice storm. Power off & on...thank heavens for propane!!! No cell service, SPRINT. for 7 days!!
