John's Story

Life, Reality, and Other Things: Actually, some of the answers I gave to the questions here 'lie like a rug', because that is the nature of pre-fabbed answers, with no 'other' option...things in real life are much more interesting or varied from the A-B-C-D format. After i graduated from good ol' BHS, I went to Beaver Tech (aka Wright State...also known as "Wright State, Wrong University!") Ended up getting two degrees there, the last in Human Services in 1986. Worked five years for the Great State of Ohio in Vocational Rehab (but functioned more as a paper pusher then anything else), and during that time, found out i enjoyed working with special needs adults. Pretty much been in the special needs field ever since. Worked in several group homes and agencies throughout Ohio over the years, always trying to learn more. Right now I live in Columbus doing the two-job tango ...days, I work for the Heinzerling Foundation as a Habilitation Specialist (they call us 'teachers') working with the most severely developmentally disabled adults. Been there since 2007. Many of these folks need assistance in the most basic of life needs as my residents usually function somewhere mentally from three years of age all the way down to a month old, so they are a challenge! Thursday nights and alternate weekends, i work in a supported living home for two adult men...both are video game addicts .... Dad passed away during the holidays in 2006, and Mom passed suddenly in Feb 2010 i may be found hitting antique shows and malls, and occasional licence plate meets. I do some very odd antiquing...namely older highway signs and old road maps....I take occasional road trips into New England or other places for 'fun, ti be where i had never been before, and see a lot of nice scenery as well! ome model railroading, dabbling a bit with Japanese trains as well as American passenger trains I do still belong to DaytoN-Track, but i havent been able to find the time to hook up with the Columbus N-Trak guys. I also have gotten into Japanese animation over the last decade. (If you can get past the 'cartoon' concept and take a deeper look at the original storylines, there are some excellent 3-D characters and writing to go with the artwork in many series that doesn't involve cute monsters, fighting, or cute girls in sailor suits! And unlike most American cartoons like Scooby Doo, where the characters have hardly changed much, anime characters seem to grow as their series progresses.) Studio Ghibli is a favorite of mine....and for you who might have young kids (or grandkids...GASP!*) , i can recommend anything they do on the Disney DVD labels -->Castle in the Sky, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, and my personal favorite, My Neighbor Totoro...all appropriate family viewing. I also tried my hand at fanfic writing a few years ago, and i still dabble in that on occasion. My efforts recently are on my Facebook page Also like reading, but i find very few books that really engage me...one i am currently reading is titled "Shut Up, Stop Whining, And Get A Life" by Larry Winget....very confrontational and in-your-face reading... Hoping to reconnect with everyone I knew at BHS... ....but also hoping to reconnect with some people i knew when I was in various schools in Fairborn from 1965-72...i didnt know some of these folks long, but their names and memories stayed with me over the years....Becky Bush and Lisa Wofford from Five Points Elementary, Betty Jo Vail from South and Anna Taylor from Black Lane and Central Jr High..... I don't know if they remember me, but i sure do remember them!
