John's Story

Military Life aboard the sh***y Shadwell. Lots of work. We had Skinner/Uniflow reciprocating steam piston engines(hot water propulsion), Straight tube boilers, double door fire rooms, ancient evaporators and pumps taken off older ships in the 40's. BUT- we could make a cool 14 knots with a good tail wind. Flight...Expand for more
quarters that lasted forever. An MR's Nightmare. The most fun was stealing the jarheads chow from the well deck (while it was "under guard yet"). Met and cherish the people I was with. Went on to College. Became a "chemist" of all things, and now build and fly Experimental Airplanes. (but no flight quarters).
