John's Story
Life
In the fall of 1965 I went to New Mexico Highlands University. A four year stint in the Navy 1968-1972. Then a BA/MA in Music from Highlands. I tought HS Band for one year. Joined the Army in 1975 as a bandsman and retired in 1991 as a MSG (E8). I taught elementary music in a school just outside of San Antonio, Texas for 9 years. Now I am full time retired. I am living in an RV and am in the town of New Braunfles, Texas at the moment. I spend summers in Las Vegas, New Mexico (not nevada). I don't miss snow or NJ much. I have been thinking of volunteer work but have not gotten around to it. I play tuba in a town band. I am active with the american leginon. Fish and hunt and otherwise keep quite busy

I taught in Los Lunas, NM from 74-75 and went back in the service. I taught again from 1992-2001 after I retired from the Army. I guess I am full time retired now, but I may work again if the situation is nice. I don't need the money.
Military
I joined the Navy in 1968 to avoid being drafted. I did not get to be a musician although I played in the band in boot camp. I was a CT, which was not bad and I had good duty stations. I joined the Army in 1975 because teaching was not very good and the pay was terrible. My best duty station in the Navy was Scotland. The best in the Army was Ft Bliss, TX. I did not have a worst duty station in the Navy, but in the army it would have to be the 5th ID band at Ft Polk, LA.
