John McCormick was born in Oklahoma City and attended old Central High School in downtown Oklahoma City and Southwestern High School in Oklahoma City. McCormick served three years of active military duty in the U. S. Army from February 1967 to February 1970. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam from August 1967 to September 1968 and was awarded the Air Medal with three clusters, The Army Commendation and The Vietnamese Cross for service during the Tet Offensive of 1967-1968. Later, he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General Corps.
McCormick received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oklahoma and his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University Law School. He is a member in good standing with the Oklahoma State Bar Association and admitted to federal practice in the Western District of Oklahoma and the Supreme Court of Oklahoma.

, McCormick served as General Counsel for the Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement System, the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System, the Oklahoma State Board of Retirement Systems and acted as lead counsel for the Oklahoma Attorney General during the Enron/WorldCom economic crisis. His prior law practice includes service as Deputy General Counsel of the Oklahoma City Public Schools and Deputy General Counsel and Federal State Coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
McCormick also has public service as an elected official. In 1985, he was elected to a four-year term to the Metro Tech School Board, Vocational District 22, Seat 2, serving a term as Vice Chairman and an additional term as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. McCormick also served as adjunct professor for 18 years at Rose State College and Oklahoma City Community College teaching English and Business.
McCormick was appointed by the Governor to the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Court in 2006 and served a six year judicial term before joining CompSource Mutual as General Counsel on August 13, 2012.
May 2019 retired from state employment. Now in private law practice., and Active Retired judge in the Oklahoma workers' Compensation Court.
