John's Story
Life
After HS I did 4 years in the Air Force. During that time I married the wonderful woman I'm still married to for 51 years now (2014). After the AF I did 2 years as a letter carrier with the Post Office. Then I went to Devry Institute for 2 years and graduated and moved to Chicago to work for Bell Labs. In 1979 we moved to Raleigh, NC and I went to work for Nortel. In 2004, I was able to secure a work at home position within Nortel, and we moved to Little River, SC which is just outside of Myrtle Beach, SC. I retired in 2008. We have 2 children, both boys, and 5 grandchildren, 4 boys and a girl.
My wife, Karen, had a stroke in 2006 which has led to her health deterioration. Thank God for Medicare. The average temperature here is around 65 degrees year-round, and little to no snow.
I consider myself extremely fortunate in having found a life long mate, and having a career that has been very rewarding. If you knew...Expand for more
me at Willie Chris, you remember that I barely graduated because of school skipping issues. My junior and senior years were filled with my stupidity. I owe much of where I am today to my best friend back then, Jack Meredith. Jack convinced me that the best thing for us was to join the service, and it was. I haven't seen Jack since 1962, and he hasn't signed in as a classmate. I hope that I will see him again someday.
I was able to re-unite with some of my other good friends from HS, namely Gerald Webb and Larry Black. Gerald had a very nice home in Independence (he now lives in Dallas) and he and Virginia allowed us to stay there when my half-brother died in 2004. We shared many memories. Larry has retired in Oregon, and is doing great at last I heard.
Well, even though I still have 2000+ characters left for this bio, I think I'll end it here.
UPDATE 10/13/2014: We moved from Little River to Murrells Inlet also in SC.
