John's Story
Life
Hello from Port Orchard, WA., where my wife Peggy and I have lived since
August 1992. After graduation from Siena College (BA History 1961), I entered the Navy and was later commissioned as an Ensign on February 7, 1964. I served in the United States Navy for almost 30 years, retiring as a Navy Captain. While stationed in Memphis, TN, I received an MS Degree in Operations Management. My retirement cermony was on July 31, 1991 at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, CA., where I had been the Chief of Staff for three years. During my Naval career, I served onboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61) and on Special Operations on three nuclear submarines.. Peggy and I
and our children were stationed overseas in mainland Japan, Turkey, ...Expand for more
Spain, and Okinawa and we had stateside tours in Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, and California. We have visited around 30 foreign countries. and all 50 states. After leaving the Navy, I worked as an Office Manager in Seattle for 8 years.
Peggy is originally from Towanda, PA., and graduated from Mount Sinai
School of Nursing in New York City. During her career, she worked at
Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, was a school nurse in Okinawa,
and for 14 years has worked in the Radiation Clinic at Harrison Memorial Hospital
in nearby Bremerton, WA. Peggy is a Registered Nurse (RN and specialized
in Oncology.
We have 5 grandchildren and we will celebrate our 54th wedding
anniversary of September 17, 2006.
