John's Story
Life
John Edward Morris, 37, of Wheaton died Monday morning, October 27th, 2003, of esophageal cancer. Born in Indianapolis and living briefly in Connecticut and California, he moved to Wheaton in 1973 and spent most of his life there. He graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1984, and received his B.A. degree from Northern Illinois University in 1988. In 1991, he earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration, also from NIU. He worked for the City of Naperville for 6 years before becoming Village Administrator for Sugar Grove. In 2001, he returned to the City of Naperville as the Assistant Finance Director.
Always a selfless and courageous person, John rescued a woman whose car was sinking in a pond in 1988. For this, he received awards from a municipality, a fire protection district, and a service organization. He loved animals, often rescuing or helping them, and he was especially close to his own two cats.

lar railroad photography, and he amassed a large collection of railroad photographs, one of them published in a book. An active person, he enjoyed following trains, running, bicycling, traveling, and had indulged in mountain climbing, surfing, and snorkeling.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 17 years, Karen Duchaj, his father, Phillip Morris of Jensen Beach, Florida, three sisters: Susan Morris of Madison, Wisconsin, Margaret Morris of Coral Springs, Florida, and Kimberly Stites of Sammamish, Washington, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Morris.
Visitation was held at Hultgren Funeral Home at 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, on Friday, October 31st, from 3pm until 9pm. A public memorial service was held in the same location on Saturday, November 1st, at 1:00pm. A later burial service was private.
In lieu of flowers, it was JohnÂs wish that memorial donations be made to the animal charity of the donorÂs choice.
