John's Story
Life
I have traveled and lived in 28 States of the U.S. after leaving High School. I did graduate from Michigan State Univ. in 1974. I received my call to ministry in 1983 when I lived in San Jose, CA. The ministry is a daily part of my life.
School
WHILE ATTENDING H.S. I WAS BEST
KNOWN FOR LOSING WHEN SEEKING THE
OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF MY SENIOR
CLASS. I WAS INTELLECTUAL AND NOT
SPORTS MINDED AT THE TIME. THERE
WAS A HISTORY CONTEST PREPARED BY
THE HISTORY TEACHERS OF THE SCHOOL
AFTER FINDING OUT ALL THE ANSWERS
I GAVE THE ANSWERS TO MY CLOSEST
FRIENDS. THERE WERE AT LEAST 10
PEOPLE GETTING THE FIRST PLACE
PRIZE BECAUSE OF MY EFFORTS. I WAS
VERY POPULAR MY NICKNAMES WERE
MR. PRESIDENT AND SWEET JOHN.
I NEVER HAD A GIRLFRIEND WHILE
ATTENDING H.S. SCHOOL. THIS WAS A
RESULT OF ME MAKING SURE I WOULD
MAKE GRADES TO GET INTO COLLEGE.
ALTHOUGH, MY PARENTS WOULD NOT
ALLOW ME TO PLAY ANY SPORTS. I
WALKED ON AND PLAYED FOOTBALL AT A
MAJOR COLLEGE; MICHIGAN STATE
UNIVERSITY.
College
I WAS A MAJOR PLAYER ON CAMPUS, A D.J. WHO NAME WAS SWEET JOHN.
MY BEST FRIENDS WHEN I WAS AT M.S.U., WERE MY COUSIN GARY, WHO WENT TO LAWRENCE TECH IN SOUTH FIELD, AND OF COURSE MY BEST FRIEND,
THADDAEUS LEE. THAD AS A PERSON NO MAN COULD BE JEALOUS OF BUT ALWAYS HANG WITH. OTHER FRIENDS WERE BRO. RAPP LAMAR BOYD, GERALD PATTERSON, ROY COWANS, HARLESS, REGINA PRYOR AND OF COURSE THE TWINS THERESA BROWN AND VIVIAN CONWAY. THERE WERE A HEAP LOAD OF OTHERS BUT THESE I CAN BE SAFE WITH. BEST OF FRIENDS WE SHALL ALWAYS BE. I PLEADED PHI BETA SIGMA WHILE IN COLLEGE.
After College
i LIVED IN MEMPHIS WHERE I WORKED FOR WMC-TV CHANNEL 5 AS A PRODUCTION ASSISTANCE/CAMERAMAN. I ENTERED THE ARMY AND WAS
IN THE ARMY 4 YEARS., I AT ONE TIME WAS GOING TO BE A CAREER OFFICER
WHILE I WAS IN BUT SOUGHT FREEDOM FROM IT AFTER 2 YEARS. I TRAVELED TO KOREA, JAPAN AND LIVED IN TX, SC, MD WHILE IN THE ARMY. I GOT OUT OF THE ARMY IN 1979 AND THE LIVED IN CA WHERE I RECEIVED MY CALL TO MINISTRY, TN, BATTLE CREEK, MI BEFORE MOVING TO THE ATLANTA, AREA IN 1988. M-16s at me for running to Summer School up Woodward Ave.
I exercise and pray when I am down. I pray for others and myself.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have laughter, music, and good co-workers to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
My inspiration comes from Jesus Christ, my true Hero.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Karen Smith, because we were close in H,S..
Love the L.A. LAKERS, DALLAS COWBOYS, MICH STATE UNIV, FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL AND OF COURSE I LOVE THE CLEVELAND BROWNS WHO NEVER WINS.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel THE BASEMENT and add on a GARGAGE. My dream home would be SEVERAL HOME IN THE ATL AREA.
I LEARNED NEVER GIVE THEM ALL THEY ASKED FOR, BUT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED. LET THEM WORK FOR OTHER THINGS THEY WANT, BE FIRM.
If I won $100 million, I'd give MONEY TO CHURCH, MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, FRAT AND HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM of it to 25%, then spend the rest on BUSINESS, MY FUTURE WIFE and TRAVEL.
YES, I AND I JOINED PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INC. I was very popular at M.S.U. . I was a major player on the radio as a D.J., and I sponsored many dances and parties. One party was a hit for me, when Stevie Wonder came by after doing a Concert at MSU in 1973. I played football for 2 years as a walk on. I worked a part-time job and always manage to have money. I think working and going to school can be bad for some when it becomes to making grades. I loved living in the dormitory at MSU and hope everyone who goes to college have that opportunitly.
My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be finished with doing things in life. I was so completely surprized because I am restarting a new life now.
I worked several jobs and owned my on business. If I was to redo everything I would be a computer sales person at first and own a computer related service business.
My best friend would tell you I'm funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as serious.
No, I dress totally different more stylist.
I share my home with me, which I find freedom.
Coaching youth basketball.
In 10 years, I hope to be remarried. I'm going to get there by 1-2 years.
My oldest friend is my cousin Gary who I stay constantly in touch with. I was the best man at his wedding, which I still appreciate to this day.
