John's Story
After graduating from Pleasant Hill High School I attended Diablo Valley College for a semester and quickly dropped out. Wasn't ready to learn yet I guess.
A week after I'd dropped out at DVC, I received my draft notice from Uncle Sam. The Air Force Recruiter wouldn't take me, due to a little jam I found myself in down in Santa Cruz in May of 1968 (Our exchange student Jose Ponte can fill you in on those details), so he suggested I go see the Navy Recruiter down the hall. Next thing I know I'm in the Navy. I spent the next four years in the Navy as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS St. Louis (LKA-116). We were in the combat zone in Viet Nam for two years, six months and seventeen days. Made some true friends there.
After being discharged from the Navy I attended Cabrillo College in Aptos, where I met my wife of 44 years, Peggy Stone. She grew up in Capitola.
While in my Senior year at San Jose State University, majoring in Accounting, I was hired by Dun and Bradstreet as a business analyst (gofer).

orking at D & B that my father, who owned Nesbit Insurance, called me and said hey my secretary just quit, you wanna come and work with me? So I moved from Aptos back to Pleasant Hill and have been in the insurance business here ever since.
In addition to my wife Peggy, we have a daughter Natalie and a son James. No grandkids yet.
I have so many great memories of the kids at Oak Park Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Intermediate and Pleasant Hill High School. Some classmates have misplaced their yearbooks so our 1968 Rambler yearbook is posted on our Class of 1968 web page here, and our PHI Trojan yearbooks (1963 and 1964) have been posted over at Pleasant Hill Intermediate School's Classmates main page under "photo album." Some great photographs of your old classmates will be found there.
Today I'm enjoying my free time. Lots of therapy in fishing, traveling, gardening, playing music, reading and just being alone with my lovely wife.
I'm so grateful for the times of my life and the people who've helped me along the way.
