John's Story

Let's start with where I am now... I'm working for the USDA in Fort Smith, AR. I wanted to see if what they said about inbreeding in the Ozarks was true... Yep, there's some folks here that would fit in well in any Deliverance scene. I'm working at pushing water up mountains into rural America and building hospitals in little bitty towns. "Rural Development" is what they call it. We write grants to make it happen or loans when the free money runs out, but mostly just a lot of contract law, which is what I ended up in. I've spent the last ten years working for the government as a contracting officer and bouncing all over the US. I've seen some neat places and lived in some awesome areas. My old office was backed up to the mountains in CO. before that, San Antonio, Panama City Beach and a few others. I've gotten tired of moving and was trying to get closer to DFW without going back to that mess and ended up here in Fort Smith. I'm on the third and final wife. If this one don't last, me and my horse will be bachelors the rest of the way. I've got four kids. Three boys and a girl. The two oldest boys by the first wife are grown and gone and I don't get to see them much if any. My youngest son is with me and we're having a ball. My daughter is looking at moving back, but is hanging out with her mother for the moment. Before all...Expand for more
of that, I spent a little over a decade as a combat controller in the Army and AF. If you know what that is, you know it's a tough thing to do to your body, if you live through it. I'm recovering now from the third operation on a knee now and the doc says my running days are over. A new knee is in the future, but I'm gonna work this one till it gets totally busted. I hate getting cut on. College was a blur. I did the Easyfield thing and swam at SMU. When the football team got busted for the free corvettes and cheerleaders my scholarship went away, so off to ETSU (A&M Commerce now), Excelsior in NY and a couple schools at the AF War College. More degrees than money and a lot of years spent ruining my eyesight. Thank God for Lasik. I've seen a few of you and talked to a few and emailed a bunch, but just stay so busy, keeping in touch is tough. Forgive me for that and don't hessitate to holler if you get time. I still swim whenever I can, fly whenever the checkbook will bear it and love to go ride whenever it's not too hot. Not so much for me, but Zip. I still get out the old trombone and play with my son. He's a blonde version of me. I still miss my old runnin' buddies and hope to God I havn't offended any of them over the years. Feel free to write and tell me what's going on in your lives. I'd really like to know. C'ya
