John's Story
Life
After leaving high school I entered LSU, completing two plus years in engineering, before joining the United States Air Force in late 1968. I spent the next seven years in the Air Force, during which time I went to Southeast Asia(1969-70), completed my B.S. in engineering at the University of Texas (1972), and received a Masters in Finance from Southern Mississippi (1975). I attended Law School at LSU from 1975-78 and received a Juris Doctor degree. I've practiced law for the past 24 years specializing in construction litigation.
I have four children ranging in age from 33 to 15 and four grandchldren. My oldest must take after her Dad because she is in law school at the age of 33! My second child works in the music industry in New Orleans, the third is a sophmore at Tulane, studying law -what else, and the last is a sophmore at Central Private School who aspires to be a vet.
My wife, Sandy, is from West Monroe, Louisiana. She has a B.A. from Centenary and a MBA from LS...Expand for more
U. She owns and operates her own consulting firm known as BROWN & COMPANY.
We own numerous pieces of rental property (Carlton Sheets Disciplies) and yes you can buy property for little or nothing down...We own about $2M at last count and none of it bought with our own money.
We travel a great deal having visited 23 foreign countries at last count. We go mostly in conjunction with Rotary International which is almost like a religion to me. I've served at all local levels and was District Governor in Louisiana in 1996-97. Now I serve in advisory capacity on Intenational level. Just got back from our most recent trip to Europe - Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy (Rotary Convention was in Barcelona, Spain). Next summer off to Australia for convention.
Although I've wandered far and wide we still call Baker home. Would like to hear from some of the old gang. Even those of you who called me "four eyes" and "pimple face" and said "you'll never amount to anything"..all is forgiven.
