John's Story
At Helix most of my peers would remember me as a total wannabe...following any trend that I could easily mimic. I used to bleach my hair, I was in the band. Bagpipes Kilt and all...Lame! ...You also might know my older Sister Stephanie Petersen...Helix high '85-'87
My friends and acquantinces were Frank Lewis (You Wanker, lost track of yah in the Navy), Margo (drove a Vespa, probably gay...sorry if I'm wrong.), Adam Rittenberg, some other Flock of seagull look alikes (can't remember names, except Adam's, sorry Adam,) Crystal Lee...miss you crystal... We all wore pegged pants and had interesting clothes...Z-cavariccis...Yikes! And various others who drank, and smoked Cloves at the time. Sometimes hung around grossmont center and aquarius skate rink...sad, but true.
Contrary to popular belief at the time...as I've heard ...No I'm not gay and never was. Sorry to burst some people's bubble, I'm sure there were bets. I enjoyed Helix a lot until I moved...many good people as I recall.
Oceanside was a little frightening for me. Not quite the haven I was "Stoked" to be moving to. Oceanside high was rough around the edges and had it downfalls, but good teachers and many good friends. Mr Dinero, I owe you my career and success...thanks for being a great influence! Michelle...best friend a guy could ever w...Expand for more
ant, and Bill Thane, you are true blue and a I loved hanging out with you.
From the Navy...what's happened to everyone on the Hepburn? You know they sank her after all the work we did in dry dock? You guys were the best guys to hang out and drink with. Steve Price, Lawerence Duddenhoffer, Brian Egdahl, RADAR, and others, I hope all is well for you guys...Still have nightmares about Chief Sanderson.
LCU 1631 from 1992, thanks for doing all of my work on West Pac, while I was injured...owe you one. Also for saving my life when I was choking on Cookie's Lousy Pork Adobo....no offense cookie! Chief Barney I hope you are enjoying some of the retirement you richly deserved...hope it is a good one.
Anyone that remembers me and wants to swap war stories or talk about the 'ole days...drop me a line.
Best of days,
John Petersen

PS. Today, I run a small firm specializing in providing design and consulting services to the California State Goverment focusing mainly on Web based application development and an emphasis on Usability and Accessibility.
Also if any of you new my brother Bill...actually went to grossmont '82-'86...he passed away in '97. God be with him and rest his sole...MISS YAH BILL.
