John's Story

Well, we made it! We are now in cycle 4! We are at that stage in life where diet is very important. What we eat may make up for all the abuse we gave our bodies in the previous 65 years! It will also help us protect our teeth and give us the energy we need with out creating other embarrassing issues. We now know everything. Sometimes we wish we could combine our wisdom with the body of youth. Unfortunately, we know better. We know that youth comes with hormones, immaturity, and all the other things that drove us crazy over the next 45years. Remember all the things you still want to forget and hope others don¿t remember? Here we are at the gates of retirement, yet we cannot retire. Because we are part of the baby boom bulge, too many are trying to get through those narrow gates at the same time. Like our high school clothes, it does not fit. There is not enough room. What is a mortal soul to do? Like all our opportunities up to now, we can either complain or we can figure out what to do. My quandary is¿.what route to take. Complaining is easy and fun. Figuring out what to do is what I have been doing all my life and is really hard work! Since I am masochistic, I know I will take the hard work approach. I really enjoy getting together with friends from those wonderful Modesto years. I am still proud of coming from ¿Mo Town¿. It is fun to talk about the good old times. Then, I realize how much I remember about the good things and how much I want to forget that the bad things ever happened. The reality is that there is a majority of time I cannot remember at all! I guess that is how the mind protects me. In my mind, my life has not passed me by. I still look at every day as a challenge (becaus...Expand for more
e it is). Problems are not harder; they are just much more complex! I realize that is because my horizons have opened over the years and that nothing requires a simplistic answer. Yes, I am married. I still have two adopted children (22+) and live in Connecticut. I think I am still self-employed. My account thinks otherwise. My best wishes to all of you and hope to see you at the next reunion! My life insurance company is betting on it! **************** I love it back in Connecticut. But, this winter has been passionate and it testing my ability to like it. It is not that we get as much snow as Buffalo, NY or Montana. But, this area is old with narrow roads and loads of people. Even the commuter trains are not designed for this much snow. That is why it is on the national news as a disaster. Personally, I think we are all wusses. Ok, two feet of ice on the ground is enough! My passion for retail is showing on my blog. I am doing a history study on all the department stores in North America. I have been to most. Anyway, I am depicting these stores through my collection of postcards. So far, I have covered all the department stores of Southern California. I am now doing Northern California. I have already posted the story on The City of Paris in San Francisco. I will soon be doing Emporium, Capwells, Weinstock Lubin, I. Magnin, J. Magnin, Liebes, Gottschalk's, and others. Then, I will do New York. Phew.... yet, fun!! I hope you take a look! This site will not allow me to leave my blog address. I guess the best way to tell you is to look at our website. It is plummersearch with the dotcom extension. You can then click on the blog button. Or, you can look me up on Google and you will find the address. John
