John's Story
Life
Life is interesting - full of twists and turns and fun. I grew up all over the south but mostly between Tennessee and Florida. Joined the Army right out of High School and was the best soldier they had until July of 1998 when I retired. I've been working in Telecommunications in Tulsa, Ok since. I've been married and divorced twice and have a kid from each. A son, Brian (14), and a daughter, Jennifer (11). Both divorces were THEIR fault :) I'm happy, doing well and enjoy my job. I just can't believe I'm 40!!!
School
Best school years were at Walnut High School in Walnut, Mississippi. A tiny town but folks were tight. Got jerked out of my Senior year at Christmas and moved to Florida so I didn't get to graduate with my friends. That SUCKED!!!
College
I studied at an overseas campus in Germany for the University of Maryland. Got a degree in Computer Science.
Workplace
Worked as a Lead Voice Maintenance Technician supporting Brooks Customers while with WORLDCOM. When they bought MCI, I knew the end was coming...when they considered buying Sprint - I left. WORLDCOM is a horrible company - customers do NOT come first.
Williams, WCG or WILTEL as we're called now has suffered through the Telecom nightmares and I...Expand for more
've managed to survive 9 layoffs. I'm currently the Supervisor in charge of 12 Network bandwidth install technicians. Love my work, got a great boss and the best technicians this side of the military! Most of them are ex-military!!!
*** wow - haven't updated this in awhile *** currently Director of all network voice service activation for Level3 Communications post integration with Wiltel and about 6 other companies.
Military
Froze my booty off while stationed in Colorado; made a name for myself early by showing leadership traits while with the 533rd MI Bn in Frankfurt Hoerscht - met my first wife there; moved over to a Signal Co. under 59th Ord Bde near Kircheim-Bolanden - the Kasern was nicknamed Northpoint. My son was born during that time. Moved on over to the 141st Signal Bn. in Bad Kreuznach in '90 because they were the first to get MSE equip. Got divorced and met my second wife and we had our daughter while there. Spent a free vacation in Kuwait then routed to Ft. Polk after ANCOC. The 108th ADA Bde was moved to Ft. Bliss so I moved with it and retired 2 years early from there and lost only 1% retirement pay :) I made lots of great friends and saw some beautiful country while in the military - whether I wanted to or not.
