John's Story

Life After High School I went onto Avery Point where I played Basketball with a great group of guys. From there I went to Thames Valley (now 3 Rivers) and got my 2 year degree in computer technology. I was lucky and landed a good job as a computer tech, working alongside a bunch of other TVSTC grads. I got married shortly after to another NFA'er class of 85, but that didn't work out, after 2 kids and almost 12 years we divorced. My son, Emmett was born in 93 and daughter, Erin in 95. I'm lucky to be blessed with two very smart talented kids. My son plays soccer, basketball, and track (at NFA). My daughter is a ballerina, and a good bball player herself. Somewhere around 1992, I went to work for Sonalysts as a Server admin, and did all kinds of fun stuff for the Navy. The great thing about that is you get to travel. I went to some very cool places. I also finished up my bachelors degree in Computer Science, going to night classes at the University of New Haven. In 1996 I decided, traveling was a bit much and that I wanted to spend more time with my kids. That's when I went to work at Conn College and later on met my future wife Laurie and her two girls Dana and Erin (yeah, I know we have two Erin's). We just celebrated our 5th year of marriage. I'm currently working as a Systems/Network Administrator for Connecticut College. I've been here for almost 12 years. I spend most of my time now working...Expand for more
, watching my kids play sports/dance, hanging out with the Mohegan Strider running Club, practicing guitar and being roady for my wife's band (Run For Cover). In between things, my wife and I have squeezed in some road races, a couple of tri's and duo's. I still try to make it down for faculty/staff hoops at the gym once a month too. College Most of my college time was spent at night school. I never had as much fun as you full time students, but then I also didn't wind up with any student loans. My most memorable times in college revolve around playing basketball for Avery Point. It was a terribly long season. The way I remember it, I couldn't wait for it to end. I look back now and it seems like it flew by. I was behind the curve when I played at NFA (which wasn't much). I didn't have the experience nor the growth to be a good basketball player in high school. All that changed in college. I wound up playing along side players that I had only watched play from the bench at NFA. When I got a shot to play in college, I was glad I made the most of it. Some of my teammates were Kevin Jasciewiz (Brown University assistant coach), Dave Goldsnieder (MHS head coach), Charley Hillman (Fitch Girls asst. coach) ( We loved you Charles, u will always be missed), Rob Tomkins, Barry Touwe (Sorry about the spelling guys), Chuck Kotecki. It was a great team and I had a blast playing with you guys.
