John's Story
Updated 6-20-2022...Maybe the best day I remember at FVHS was the day the Carpenders Band came to perform in our bowl. I think it was 1970, and they were unbelivably good at such young ages, Karen Carpender was 20 and Richard Carpender was 24 in 1970. It was sad hearing of Karen Carpender's death in 1983 at age 33. Upon graduating from Fountain Valley High School in 1971 and after 4 great years at the best high school anywhere I was off to college at Long Beach State where I graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration. It was during this time back in 1974 that I also worked on the floor of the Pacific Stock Exchange and at a Newport Beach stock brokerage firm. While there, I soon became the youngest stockbroker to earn a Series 7 brokerage license in the history of the state of California, which seemed purposeful because I bought my first stock at the young age of 13. From here I began my most important journey to further find my destination in life. This would lead me through numerous opportunities, all turned out successful but some more than others, with every disappointment creating another steppingstone to move forward, while pushing me to be the best I can. tion to, and learned from John Wooden, the great UCLA basketball coach.
In 1984 I formed CSG Spectra Inc., a successful risk analytics firm that in year 2000 ultimatly transitioned into Oak Tree Asset Management and oaktreeassetmanagement.com, where I have successfully traded in the stock, commodity, and financial markets for the past 22 years. Interestingly, my mother always used to tell me when I was young, "John, I know you get knocked down a lot, but you always get right back up., then you're off toward new highs again, and I am confident you always will". Thanks mom, you have been my guiding star from above.
So here I am, married for the last 20 years, and blessed to have had the most unusual, exciting, and diverse life of anybody I know, and I have been well rewarded for my endeavors. Now, I try to give back and to make a difference in the lives of others whenever possible. This gives me my greatest satisfaction. Lastly, one of my greatest pleasures over the years is my love of border collies, and my newest is a puppy named Lily (named because she has unusual lily white ears), and she is as sweet as can be. Lastly, I would love to hear from my many old friends at FVHS.
Best, John Schultz
