John's Story
Life
I dropped out of Newark High School half way through the eleventh grade and joined the US Navy. Leaving Newark and joining the navy was the singular event that facilitated my success in life. After spending twelve years in the navy as an enlisted man and eight in the US Army as an officer, I retired with seven years of college that encompassed a degree in physics, a degree in English, and I now have a Ph.D. in philosophy.
During my military carrier I worked in and traveled through twenty-five countries and the Antarctic. I worked with NASA on Project Mercury. I worked on President JohnsonâÂÂs Whitehouse security staff during his Southeast Asia tour. While I was stationed in Europe with the U.S. Army and patrolling the East German Border I worked for Military Intelligence tracking French Communist insurgents in Germany. I served as a Green Beret communications officer in Southeast Asia during my first tour of duty and was a Cobra helicopter pilot during my second tour. During my last year in the army I trained for an assignment with the CIA; however, thanks to President Nixon, that assignment was trashed. After my retirement from the service I worked as a test pilot and in...Expand for more
structor for Bell Helicopter and spent ten months in Isfahan, Iran working with the Iranian Army Air Force; I escaped from Iran just before the fall of the government. From 1980 to 2001 I worked as a contract technical writer for IBM, Motorola, and Siemens in Germany, Belgium, and Florida.
I now have three novels published: "The Book in the Wall" a science fiction novel that takes place in the year 2084 after the United States has lost the war on Islamic terrorism; "Ten Months in Iran" a true story about my time working for Bell Helicopter in Isfahan; and "Operation Minerva" a fictional story about the Green Berets and CIA in Vietnam based on my tour of duty as a Green Beret. I have been trying to publish another fictional Vietnam novel "Fort Nari" about the Green Berets and a true novel "Memories of War" about Vietnam helicopter pilots; however, my job has been keeping me too busy to finish them. My books are available on Amazon.com in hard copy and e-book format.
Today, at 77, I work as a R&D electronic engineer for a South Florida aerospace company and live with my wife JoAnn and my three pound Chihuahua named Coco. Chiquita, my Chihuahua for 17 years, died two years ago.
