John's Story
Life's Ride
I grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee in a large family with four brothers and four sisters. After graduating from Riverside High School in 1968, I joined the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, I gained valuable mechanical experience working on all types of equipment as I traveled around the world. In 1972 I married my high school sweetheart, Dorothy Brown. I was discharged from the Navy in 1973 and we moved back to Chattanooga.
I received an Associate degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Chatt. State Tech. Comm. College in 1976 and a BS degree in Physics from the University of Tennessee in 1978.
After graduation, we moved to Texas. I was employed by The Dow Chemical Company for 30 years. During my career, I held several positions:
- Research Engineer
- Vibration Specialist
- Technical Supervisor
- Technical Section Manager
- Certified Six Sigma Project Manager
Also in parallel with my Dow career, I have been active in city, county, state and national organizations. Some of those activities include:

I have been supported in all my activities by my wife Dorothy. We have three daughters; Meeca, Jeanelle ,and Summer Starr, three grandchildren; Morgan, Nayson and Nevan.
I have been blessed. It has been a nice ride.
