John's Story

So, left Duluth for USAF in ‘75. Spent twenty years in communications, with tours in Biloxi MS, Tampa (2), Guam, Bremerhaven, GE, Crete Greece, San Jose Ca, and finally to the organization’s staff in WASHINGTON DC until I retired from active duty.. continued working in the Intelligence Community for two different Agencies for 24 more years until I got tired of commuting 45 mins each way each day, even leaving the house at 0445 and headin home before 3. Ah Duluth, where living in Lakeside might meant 20 mins to get to DCHS, even on a bad day. Got married in Guam to another USAF member who has put up with me for 43 years. We had one daughter born in Germany, and one almost in Cret...Expand for more
e, but got to San Jose with a couple of weeks to spare. The oldest graced us with our first grandson and then twin girls two years later. The youngest daughter provided the first grandchild, a girl, took a break and then has had had two boys in the last 5hree years. We have been truly blessed. Stayed healthy, though heavy, all the way until turned 65. Had a case of cancer in tonsil, followed by radiation and and chemo. Then last fall minor stroke with no lasting effects from either. Funny story: met one of our classmates in Guam when I got in accident. Had to run to the civilian hospital where she was on duty. That was in ‘77 or ‘78. Real co ink a dink if you look at where Guam is.
