John's Story
Life
Happily married to a beautiful lady from South Africa, who rescued me from myself and led me to the truth. Have two grown children who have made me very proud. Never been hungry, out of work, or without shelter... life has been good. Enjoy life now more than ever.
Work
I've worked in the electrical field for 27 years with Dupont. In total, including my Navy time, I had 17 years as a marine/industrial electrician. For the last 14 years I've been working as a Process Control Tech, more PLC/DCS computer stuff, but the same theory of operation. Navy definitely paved the way for where I've been and what I've done since I was 18... It was more than a job...
Changed jobs in July of 2007 to a Lab Tech in the Quality Control Lab at the Edge Moor Dupont Plant. Happy with the change, find the work stimulating and refreshing.
Military
I was a bit wild back then, thought far too much of myself, ...Expand for more
fortunately I've settled down and come to grips with how insignicant I really am.
Spent four years in the Navy. Went to Electricians Mate (EM) 'A' School, which was a good fit for me. I wanted to see the world and figured EM was a sea going rate... was stationed on the aircraft carrier Independence, home port Norfolk, Va.
There are better duty stations, but I'm sure there are worse. We were busy, I went on three Med Cruises in three years, and stopped in most of the European ports. We went to the Carribean more times than I can remember, and stopped only in St. Thomas once, one stop in many trips. My only liberty in the Carribean (Port and Starboard Liberty) but it was beautiful.
There were times when I thought it would never end, then there were times that I wished it wouldn't end. I was fortunate to be in contact with a great bunch of people, we were like family, and I miss many of them.
