John's Story
Life
After graduating from Maryland in 1992, I married my H.S. sweetheart and began working in the securites industry. I hated being a stock broker, so I took time off, sold cars for a year and joined a major bank as a management trainee. After a few years in banking, I left work entirely to stay home with my newborn son while my wife pursued her medical career. I eventually spent several years in the mortgage business, but that came crashing down in 2007 as the company I worked for went out of business overnight. Now I teach at a private K-8 school in Virginia and am a student pursuing my teaching certificate. I spend a lot of time shuffling my two boys to their various soccer and baseball practices (and soon swimming, God help m...Expand for more
e!). I have no complaints.
School
I never really liked high school, never felt like I belonged at Oxon Hill. I'm glad that's over. My time at the University of Maryland was great. That's where I met most of the friends I'll keep for life.
College
Graduated in 1992 Magna Cum Laude from Maryland with a degree in Finance. Was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa honor society. I ran souveneir stands at Terrapin football, basketball, and lacrosse games to earn money for school. I still have season tickets to the football games and have attended Maryland's Orange Bowl and Gator Bowl games.
Workplace
I teach partime at a private school in Lynchburg, VA while pursuing my teaching license at Lynchburg College.
