John's Story

Marquez elementary; Paul Revere Jr. High; then spent 1 semester at Uni-High before Pali opened. A quick update since high school: at UCLA for undergrad & grad school in physics; spent 8 months in USSR as a grad student. Left LA for Chicago area - Fermilab - for 2 years as a postdoc in high energy physics. Then on to Stanford, working on an experiment (with the main detector dubbed the 'Crystal Ball') at SLAC which eventually was moved to Hamburg (DESY). Met my wife, Denise, married, had three kids, while at Stanford. Lived in Redwood City and then Lafayette, CA. when I joined the Superconducting Supercollider (SSC) design group at LBL (Berkeley) working on superconducting magnets; failed ...Expand for more
the basic intelligence test: left Berkeley and moved with the SSC to Texas; lived near SMU in University Park. The SSC was canceled; returned to Fermilab, still working on superconducting magnets, etc., living in Naperville, IL. Retired in 2015. My wife Denise is a psychologist with a practice focusing on children and their families. Oldest kid - Lauren -graduated in physics from Cal, and following a postdoc position at the Univ. of Chicago, she is off to Stanford as an Asst. Prof.; middle daughter - Katie - went to UW Seattle (Spanish & Comm.), is now working for Amazon in Seattle, WA; son Sean finished undergrad at UMich and is now in his 4th year MD/PhD program at the Univ. of Iowa.
