School
Ralph Lohse was/is my favorite High School teacher of all time. Funniest, too...
My favorite H.S. memory was when I was in Mr. Lohse's class for the first time after transferring to the school from out of state. We were asked to do an oral presentation with a collage on "Communication". We had 3-4 people per day, and 24 people in the class. I had not prepared at all, figuring I would not be called upon the first day. A calculated risk, you might say. And indeed I was not picked first...I was picked second!
The person before me had a wonderful collage of a dog looking at a child eating an ice cream cone, and various other examples of communication. I had no collage, or indeed any presentation at all -- I was a great procrastinator.
Unfazed, I took a blank piece of paper as my visual aid and proceeded to give a demonstration on the effects of NON-communication. I showed on my blank sheet of paper "Here you do not see a dog, who would not be looking at an ice cream cone that is not there anyway" and for 15 minutes went through each blank sp...Expand for more
ot on my blank sheet of paper with the previous person's presentation material. I *think* people were laughing, and I *think* I kept a straight face the entire time. I did get the most applause. Mr. Lohse was quite amused, and he gave me a "B" for topic, an "A" for presentation, and a "d" for materials -- or "B-A-D"! That was my first contact with Mr. Lohse. He cast me as the lead in his next play (he was also the drama coach).
That remains my fondest memory of High School to this day....
College
I was set to go to Law school in Florida, but came to my senses in the nick of time! Not for me. So I went with IT instead. You can't win an argument with a machine when you are wrong! So it helps keep me honest :-).
I was considering enrolling in an MBA program -- but the cost doesn't seem to be worth the gain -- I may yet change my mind on that....
