John's Story
Life
Well, to start with I am originally from Lakewood, CA and only lived there for 7 years. Afterwards, my family moved to Simi Valley, CA. I still have many friends in both places and try to keep in touch. After high school, my parents forced me to join the U.S. Air Force two days after graduation. I lived in Washington, D.C., San Antonio, TX, and then back to Simi Valley, CA. I was married twice with the second marriage still growing strong. I have four children (his, hers & ours). Together we have two boys and two girls. I was once again forced to move back to Lakewood, CA against my own free will from 2001-2008. Finally, we moved away to Laguna Niguel, CA where I still currently reside. I plan to return to Simi Valley someday, but not sure when. My other preferred choice will be Boulder, CO.
School
The schools that I attended were the following: Originally from Lakewood, CA and attended at Willow Elementary School (horrible place), then moved to Simi Valley, CA and attended at Simi Elementary School. Then in the same city I went to Sequoia Jr. High School (now changed to Santa Susana High School), and then afterwards I went to Simi Valley High School were I graduated from. I have very fond memories of most of everybody from there. I hope you all that read this is doing well!
College
Started my education working to become an Air Traffic Controller, when I found that there is an age limit to hiring (age 30). I didn't see myself finishing my bachelors degree until I was 31. So, then I continued on towards my dream to work in health care as a Nurse. My parents were really set against this. I attended at Moorpark Community College, then transferred to Long Beach City College with some coursework done at Cerritos College. After completing my prerequisites I transferred over to CSU Long Beach and graduated Health Care Administration BS degree, and I'm planning on completing my goal to becoming a Regist...Expand for more
ered Nurse. I've attended at the School of Aerospace Medicine in both 1989 and 1999. To be continued...
Workplace
I'm basically a jack-of-all trades. I've been in the U.S. Air Force, California Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserves since high school. The two jobs held was Airfield Management in the Presidential Wing at Andrews AFB, MD; and currently training to become an IDMT specializing in Aerospace Medicine at March AFB, CA. Right now I am a representative for the AFFTC Space Shuttle Recovery Team out of Edwards AFB, CA. In addition, I've done everything from Administrative, Desktop Support/Help Desk Computer Guru, Security, and co-owned a Resume Service. Right now what I am currently working towards is my Nursing Degree specializing in Occupational Health. Right now I am an Inpatient Utilization Coordinator for HealthCare Partners: Region 6 - Talbert Medical Group at OCMMC in Fountain Valley, CA.
Military
I started my Air Force career at Lackland AFB, TX in the 3723rd BMTS for basic training. Then I continued over to the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB, TX to become an Aeromedical Technician. After becoming ill, I missed too much school and was reclassified as an Airfield Management Technician. From there I was stationed at Andrews AFB, MD attached to the 89th OSS Squadron in direct support to the President. When I switched over to the CA ANG I was attached to the 146th OSS doing the same job. When I finally went back to the Aeromedical Technician job I switched to the 115th AS as the Squadron Medical Element. Hated the Guard, switched to the Air Force Reserves in support of the 752nd MDS (EMEDS)and running Flight Medicine as the NCOIC at March AFB, CA. Also, supported the 95th AMDS with the AFFTC Space Shuttle Recovery Team at Edwards AFB, CA. I left permanently and have no more obligation to the government as of December 2007. I truly regret all time spent in the service.
