John's Story

Life Graduated from Salem Academy in 1961. Married Lola Flaming in 1964. Graduated from Tabor College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Music Ed. Degree and from Wichita State U. in 1972 with a Masters of Music Ed. Degree. Taught choral music for 35 years (9 years at Remington H.S. and 26 years at Lyons H.S.) and directed church choirs for 30 years. I retired from full-time teaching in 2000 and retired in May 2012 from my job as a para at Lyons M.S. Lola retired from full time teaching in 2003. We have two daughters. Stephanie (Wall) Brown is an ordained Methodist minister and is currently pastor of the First UMC in Arkansas City, KS. Her husband, Paul, is an oil field technician. and husband, E. Mason, live in Edmond, Oklahoma. Carissa taught vocal music in Goddard for five years and is currently a stay-at-home mom. Mason is an electrical engineer for Boeing Military division at Tinker AFB. They are both graduates of Kansas State University, and Carissa received her Masters of Music degree from Wichita State University. We have four grandchildren: Brookelyn Elise Brown, Paul Brown IV, Elena Catherine Robbins and Ernest Holden Robbins V. I have been active in music performance my entire life; as soloist for oratorios, weddings, concerts and church services. I have also been a guest conductor for MS and HS choirs and civic choirs, and have served as a choral judge for numerous school music contests. I have also arranged choral music and composed a number of choral responses for church choirs.
