John's Story
I graduated from Drake in '72 while working at the old Register and Tribune. I left Des Moines in 1976 with my first wife Mary and bought the weekly newspaper "The Sun Tribune" in Sutherlin, Oregon. I owned the paper for 17 years, but during that period I moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1985 after a divorce.
I remarried and began a new career in Real Estate. I also served as the local pastor of my congregation for a couple of years in the late 80's. Many great stories about that period of life.
Since 1990 I have been able to travel the world and have spent time in 60 some different countries in all parts of the world. The traveling has been just for enjoyment, not for work and all on my own or wit...Expand for more

In the late 90's I became a scuba diver....since I am not really a very good swimmer it was an amazing feat. Being a diver adds more reasons to travel the world and I have been diving in some of the most amazing places on earth....Africa, South America, all over the Caribbean including Cuba, Palau and other places in the Pacific and of coarse Asia and Southeast Asia.
I was inspired to buy my first sailboat in 2003 after living on a friends boat in Palau during a dive trip. I now have a 42' sailboat that is in San Diego......you are all invited for a sail if you make it out this way!
I am currently single again and I have not had any children...so I am having the time of my life!!
