Johnny's Story
Life
I graduated from Elyria High School in 1965. From there I stayed around Elyria for a while attending Lorain County Community College. My second year there was the first year for the new campus. I worked for a short time at the Grafton Foundry.
I ended up in the Air Force on June 6, 1967. I spent 26 years in the military (11 enlisted and 16 as an officer) and retired at the rank of Mayor. My premier assignment was being assigned to the Military Airlift Command Headquarters as the C-130 Maintenance Manager. I spent four years in this position. I then did a short tour at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey followed by an assinment to Chanute AFB, Illinois to help close the base.
I left the Air Force in March, 1993 and took a job with Lockheed Corporation in Saudi Arabia. I signed a one-year contract but ended up there for 18 months. I was the technical advisor to a Saudi Colonel who was trying to learn the ropes of aircraft maintenance in a C-130 unit.
I came back to the states in September 1994 and had a few different positions until I took on a position with The Salvation Army as a Program Director. I have been doing this the past ten ye...Expand for more
ars at three different locations.
My wife is the former Diane Knerien who graduated from Elyria high School in 1970. We were married in Decmber, 1971. My wife and I were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Now in there 30s, one is a middle school English teacher and one is a recruiter for a major corporation in St Loius. We have two wonderful grand children: Jake is five and Rachel is two.
Diane has been a wonderful wife and mother. She was a stay-at-home mom for the first ten years or so of our children's lives. She received her college degree in Secretarial Science in 1984. Over the years she has held many positions with construction companies, banks, and a power company. This was because of a lot of moving around in the Air Force. At present, she is a stay-at-home grandmother taking care of our beautiful granddaughter, Rachel, while mommy is teaching. She will enter the work world again this summer. Next school year Rachel will be three and will attend a pre-school where mommy works.
I earned a B.S. in Social Psychology in 1978 from the University of Maryland and an MBA in 1988 from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
