Jon's Story
Life
I am currently living and working in Tokyo and have been doing so off and on since 1984. I first came to Tokyo in the summer of 1979 as a language student (after graduating from SUNY Buffalo). After three months, I entered law school at U/B and graduated in 1982.
After working in NYC for 1 year, I entered the University of Washington's Asian Law Program for an L.LM specializing in Asian Comparative Law. I returned to Tokyo in 1984 and worked for 2 Japanese law firms from 1984 to 1988 whereupon I returned to NYC and joined a U.S. law firm. In 1989, I married a wonderful woman and b...Expand for more
ecame an in-house lawyer for a Japanese bank located in NYC.
In 1991, I returned to Tokyo as the Asian General Counsel for Prudential Securities, moved to HK in 1994. I left Pru in 1999 to join an investment bank as the Asia General Counsel (Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette) which was bought by Credit Suisse First boston in 2000. WIth CSFB, I returned to Tokyo and returned to Prudential in Tokyo in 2002 as the Japan General Counsel (where I currently am).
My wife and I have 3 children, Sara, Alan and Rebecca and we expect to remain in Japan for the immediate future. After that, who knows!
